The NIBGE IT-Centre oversees the installation and maintenance of computer network systems within a NIBGE premises. A team of professionals ensure, evaluate and install the proper hardware and software necessary to keep the network functioning properly. IT department have several layers of physical equipment (hardware), virtualization and management or automation tools, operating systems and applications (Software) used to perform essential functions. Main objective of Information Technology (IT) Centre is to provide convenient and secure information and communication technology service environment for the faculty & students for academic as well as Research and Development (R&D) activities at the Institute. The IT staff researches & implements cost effective solutions that enhances the Institute’s ability in providing a quality services to employee and students and gives administrators and faculty the means to operate successfully.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide one-on-one end user incident and service request resolution over the phone for workstation software.
- Delivers, tags, sets up, and assists in the configuration of end user workstation hardware, software and peripherals.
- Diagnoses and resolves end user network or local printer problems, PC hardware problems, E-mail, Internet and local area network access problems.
- Coordinates timely repair of workstation equipment covered by third party vendor maintenance agreements.
- Performs minor desktop hardware repair for workstation equipment and peripherals that are not covered by third party vendor maintenance agreements.
- Help install LAN cabling systems and equipment such as network interface cards hubs and switches.
National Library of Biological Sciences/E-Library
National Library of Biological Sciences (NLBS) represents an information source for a wide range of biological disciplines. Its main purpose is to support the learning, teaching and research needs of the students and the faculty of biological sciences in NIBGE. Currently, the NLBS collection contains approximately 2489 bound journals, 6321 books, 716 thesis (M. Phil/PhD) periodicals, course materials, and printed or photocopied articles. NLBS are modern working places equipped with all essentials required for an effective learning and research. Library users can utilize photocopiers, scanners and printers. Library users can also search various electronic information resources using PCs with internet access that are part of each individual library unit, or avail themselves of a wireless connection to their personal notebooks. HEC digital library subscribing on-line journals allowing access to abstracts, TOCs, full text and Document Delivery Services through NIBGE internet. These journals are available through nine internationally renowned publishers having different databases on Sciences, Technology, Social science and humanities. As most of the full text material on the web is in PDF (Portable Document format) . All these resources are available through NIBGE static IP addresses. Around 75,000 number of electronic content has been made available through the Digital Library Programmed in NIBGE.
