Industrial Biotechnology division has been established to apply the capabilities of the organisms to meet the industrial demands of the country.
In general, the aim of this division is to conduct basic and applied researches on physiology, and genetics of microorganisms and the manipulation of them to produce biomaterials needed in food, paper and pulp, pharmaceutical, textile, animal feed, medical, and agriculture industries.  The activities include researches in laboratory levels to pilot plant and industrial stages and test the biological products to suite the targeted industries. Industrial Biotechnology division comprises five groups i.e Fermentation technology group, Thermophilic Fungal technology group, Molecular Biology group, Enzyme Engineering group and Bioprocess Engineering group.

R&D Activities of Industrial Biotech. Division

  1. Production of industrial enzymes: α-amylase, cellulases, xylanases, glycosidases, and proteases for textile, food, feed, pulp paper & industries.
  2. Development of mutants/recombinant strains for alcohol industry
  3. Development of probiotic technology for human and animals
  4. Engineering of enzymes for industrial application
  5. Development of mutant strains for enhanced citric acid, lactic acid and ascorbic acid production
  6. Immobilization of organisms and enzymes for improved product formation.
