View Profile

The major interests of the area are to develop standard, novel and reproducible protocols for the synthesis of metal (gold, silver, palladium, platinum, copper, iron etc.) nanoparticles with a better control over their size and shape. Applications of these nanoparticles in biotechnology are: development of nanoprobes for ultra-sensitive bio-analytical applications, improvement of gene delivery system and PCR technique, advanced materials fabrication, catalysis and environmental remediation. This group has now established standard, reproducible and biocompatible protocols for the synthesis of 2-20 nm gold and 2-5 nm silver nanoparticles in aqueous system. Research interests of this group are:

  • Development of nano-probes based on nanoparticles to develop bio-analytical assays for biomolecules/pathogens identification
  • Use of nanoparticles to improve gene delivery system to develop transgenic crops. (In progress)
  • Use of metal nanoparticles to synthesize emulsion templated porous metals (metal foams/sponge).
  • Use of metal nanoparticles to develop heterogeneous catalysts (supported metal clusters on porous inorganic oxides) for possible applications in various industrial processes.
